Little House In The Big Woods

I've been reading to the kids before they go to bed each night. We've moved on from picture books and are now doing books that have, just the occasional picture. We just finished up "Kiki's Delivery Service", and so last night we started "Little House In The Big Woods", the first book in the Little House On the Prairie series. It was my wife Amanda's favorite when she was a little girl. I've read them all as well.
So does anyone remember the first chapter? Oh my! They shoot and smoke two deer. Pa shoots at a bear but misses because it was dark. Laura's bummed because she loves bear meat. The harvest a whole wagon load of fish. They butcher a hog. Amanda stopped me a couple times to explain to Phoebe what's going on exactly. I forgot about this chapter!
Maybe its a good thing, given that my daughter will be at my sister's wedding reception (they plan on serving a whole pig!)
