Limes are In

Maybe it's my New England upbringing, but I love the fall. While I'm no longer in New England, here's what I love about fall in California: my in-laws dropped off a big grocery bag filled with limes. I love when they do that. That have a lime tree in their yard that I eye wistfully all year long. Fresh limeade for breakfast and a margarita with dinner. It doesn't get any better than that!

Squeeze enough limes for about 8-9oz of juice into quart container. It takes about 10 limes or so. Fill the rest of the quart with water and add 4Tbs of sugar, more or less. I like it tart. Keep that in your fridge for emergencies. That's what I drink straight in the morning instead of OJ.

To make a margarita from the limeade, fill a tumbler with ice and limeade. I like to squeeze a fresh wedge of lime into the limeade for a little extra tartness and then drop the wedge on in. Add tequila and half that amount of cointreau to your taste, typically an ounce of tequila and a half ounce cointreau, stir and enjoy. Yes, yes, scoff purists, but I love the versatility.
